The MIRANDA Project continues to promote inclusive and equitable vocational education and training (VET) systems through the development of innovative educational resources designed to support Roma learners across Europe.
As part of Work Package 2 (WP2), the consortium successfully completed the “Guide and Action Plan for VET Schools to Address the Challenges Facing Roma Learners in VET.” This practical framework aims to help VET schools become more inclusive, culturally sensitive, and accessible learning environments for Roma students.
The action plan provides concrete recommendations for educational institutions, focusing on:
- Improving outreach and communication with Roma communities
- Adapting learning materials and teaching approaches
- Strengthening teacher capacity and intercultural competence
- Overcoming barriers to participation in vocational education
- Increasing engagement with Roma families and communities
In parallel, under Work Package 3 (WP3), partners developed the “Supporting / Empowerment Services Guidebook for Roma Learners,” a practical resource designed for educators, vocational trainers, social workers, Roma mediators, NGOs, and policymakers.
The guidebook introduces a broad range of support and empowerment strategies aimed at strengthening Roma learners’ participation and success in VET pathways, including:
- Mentoring and counselling services
- Language support initiatives
- Career guidance and employability skills
- Psychosocial support mechanisms
- Digital literacy development
- Leadership and social inclusion activities
In addition, the “Intervention Mechanism Guidebook for Tackling Dropouts of Roma Learners” was also created focused on reducing early school leaving and dropout rates by equipping educational institutions with practical intervention strategies and targeted support mechanisms.
A central feature of the intervention mechanism is the Early Warning and Monitoring System (EWMS), designed to help VET institutions identify early signs of disengagement among learners. The system includes:
- Attendance tracking
- Academic performance monitoring
- Behavioural observation
- Socio-economic risk indicators
- Individualized support and intervention plans
Through these important deliverables, the MIRANDA project reinforces its commitment to creating more culturally responsive and inclusive VET systems that empower Roma learners, reduce educational inequalities, and strengthen long-term opportunities for education, employment, and social inclusion across Europe.
